A recent illustration I made after watching the movie, Boyhood.

Jesse and I used to watch a ton of movies before we became parents. I think I've been to the movie theater a total of three times, maybe four, since Sebastian was born. Usually when I do get to watch a movie, it's months after it came out on dvd or amazon prime. The few movies I have watched lately have been really good, though (Birdman, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Snowpiercer, among others). I'd been hoping to make illustrations for each as practice, but freelancing and teaching keeps getting in the way. Hopefully I'll be able to finish a few others soon!

I just stumbled upon this sketchbook page from last year that I never posted. The funny thing is that a couple of months ago I got my hair cut extremely short - like pixie cut short and unfortunately I'm feeling the sentiments. Only this time, it's going take a lot longer....

Continuing practicing fashion illustration through window shopping winter accessories.

(left to right, top to bottom: mittens - j.crew, booties - madewell, scarf - source forgotten,  hat and weekender bag - anthropologie, coat - asos, flats - kate spade saturday, boots - sorel, hat - j.crew)

These are all from mainstream brands, but I'd love to do another page like this featuring indie designers, as well as one of all high-end couture!

I just finished this portrait illustration tonight for an upcoming tribute exhibition to Maurice Sendak at the Baltimore Enoch Pratt Central Library. The show will also feature some of Sendak's original drawings! We've been reading lots of Sendak books to Sebastian lately - Where the Wild Things Are and Bumble-Ardy are favorites, so I'm excited to be a part of this. The exhibit will run from Oct. 6 - January on the 2nd floor of the library. If you're close by, you should check it out!

I drew a series of well-dressed traveling men for slate.com this week to go along with a project that they're working on with Holiday Inn Express. The project is still in motion, but once everything is approved, I'll post all of the drawings. In the meantime, here's one of the fellows who didn't make the cut.

I bought The Wes Anderson Collection, by Matt Zoller Seitz, last week and am having a hard time putting it down. I love some Wes Andersen movies more than others, but have to admit that even the few that didn't fly for me are at least very, very pretty to look at.

The artwork throughout the book by Max Dalton is also a lot of fun.

More practice at lifestyle/fashion illustration. This piece was based on an awesome cropped rash guard and bikini bottom by Kate Spade Saturday.

I've been working on some new drawings lately to put together in a promo piece for my fashion/lifestyle work. I just picked clothes from brands I'd buy from or would like to work for and tried to make fun drawings around them. It's been a lot like window shopping. I also want to add a few pieces by high-end couture designers as well. Here's the first of the series and I'll try to update with more soon!

The dress and shoes were based on ones from Madewell.

I hope you had a lovely Fourth of July (for all of you living in the states)! We spent the day feeding koi fish, trying to fly a kite, going for walks, eating burgers and playing with sparklers in our back yard.
